In a significant breakthrough, Odisha Police on Saturday apprehended one of the two inmates who had escaped from the high-security Choudwar Circle Jail in Cuttack district. The arrest was made from the Vrindavan Math area after sustained tracking and intelligence-based operations by law enforcement agencies.
According to official sources, the two prisoners had managed to flee the correctional facility during the Dussehra festivities, allegedly taking advantage of the absence of a warder on duty. The duo reportedly cut through the iron bars of their cell before escaping, triggering widespread concern and a large-scale manhunt.
Following the jailbreak, police launched coordinated search operations across multiple districts. Acting on specific intelligence inputs, a special police team traced the movement of one of the absconding inmates and successfully apprehended him from Vrindavan Math. Senior officials stated that continuous surveillance, ground-level intelligence gathering, and coordinated teamwork were instrumental in the arrest.
The Director General of Police (DGP) confirmed the development and assured that efforts are ongoing to capture the second fugitive. Combing operations have been intensified at suspected hideouts, and security measures have been strengthened to prevent similar incidents in the future.
Police authorities reiterated their commitment to ensuring that the remaining absconder is arrested at the earliest and brought to justice.
