Sudipto Sen, known for facing previous certification challenges withThe Kerala Story, is confronting a new hurdle as his latest film,Charak, has been denied approval by the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC). The board reportedly suggested several cuts, particularly in scenes depicting cannibalism, but the filmmaker says no clear explanation has been provided for the refusal.
Speaking to News18, Sen expressed his willingness to make edits while defending the film’s intent to highlight unlawful and superstitious practices rather than incite ideological debate. The film is described as a grounded social drama exploring an ancient ritual where faith is tested through physical endurance, following individuals motivated by belief, hope, or a search for meaning.
Charakfeatures an ensemble cast including Anjali Patil, Sahidur Rahaman, Subrat Dutta, Shashi Bhushan, Nalneesh Neel, Shankhadeep, and Shounak Shyamal, and is scheduled to release in theatres on March 6.
