Bhadrak Police Bust Ganja Smuggling Racket, 24 Kg Cannabis Seized Near Charampa Railway Station

Police in Bhadrak seized 24 kg of ganja and arrested four people, including three women, near Charampa Railway Station. The accused were allegedly transporting the contraband by train to Chennai.

In a major crackdown on drug trafficking,Bhadrak Policebusted an alleged ganja smuggling racket on Saturday and seized 24 kilograms of cannabis from outside Charampa Railway Station.

Four individuals, including three women and a man, were arrested in connection with the case. According to police sources, the accused were attempting to transport the contraband by train from Tihidi to Chennai when a special team of the Bhadrak Town Police intercepted them near the railway station.

During the operation, officers recovered 24 kg of Cannabis, four mobile phones and cash amounting to Rs 2,000. Police said the estimated value of the seized narcotics runs into several lakhs of rupees, although the exact valuation is yet to be determined.

Preliminary investigation revealed that the ganja was sourced from Phulbani and was being transported to another state for illegal trade. Authorities believe the accused were promised monetary compensation for carrying the contraband.

Among the three women arrested, two are residents of Cuttack, while another belongs to the Tihidi area of Bhadrak district. Police also confirmed that one of the key persons involved in the smuggling network has been apprehended.

Bhadrak Town Police Station IIC Prabhansu Mishra said officers grew suspicious after spotting three women carrying trolley bags along with a man outside the station. Upon checking the luggage, police discovered a large quantity of ganja.

He further stated that each of the women was promised Rs 5,000 to transport the consignment. Police are now investigating the case to identify other individuals involved in the drug trafficking network.
