Berhampur Cyber Police Arrest Uncle-Niece Duo in Rs 1 Crore Mule Account Fraud Case

Berhampur Cyber Police arrested a man and his niece for allegedly facilitating cyber fraud transactions worth over Rs 1 crore using mule bank accounts. The accounts were reportedly linked to cyber fraud complaints registered in more than 30 police stations across India.

Berhampur Cyber Police have arrested a man and his niece in connection with an alleged cyber fraud case involving transactions worth around Rs 1 crore. The accused have been identified as Satya Narayan Das and his niece.

According to police, the duo allegedly facilitated financial fraud by providing mule bank accounts that were used by cyber criminals to transfer and route illegally obtained money. Their arrest followed an investigation into suspicious financial transactions linked to several cyber fraud complaints.

Reports indicate that the bank accounts connected to the accused were involved in cyber fraud cases registered at more than 30 police stations across over 10 districts in India. Cyber criminals allegedly used these accounts to carry out fraudulent transactions exceeding Rs 1 crore.

Investigators said the accused had opened several bank accounts in the names of their relatives. These accounts were later handed over to cyber criminals and used as mule accounts to receive and transfer money obtained through online scams.

Police revealed that a total of eight bank accounts were opened in the names of relatives and were used to route funds cheated from victims in different states across the country.

Preliminary findings suggest that over Rs 1 crore was transacted through these accounts during the past year. Authorities believe victims from various parts of India were targeted through different online fraud schemes before the stolen money was routed through the accounts linked to the accused.

Police have launched a detailed investigation to identify other members of the cyber fraud network and trace additional victims connected to the transactions.
