New Delhi: The Amrit Bharat Express has become a cornerstone of India’s long-distance rail network, providing affordable and extensive connectivity across regions while serving the travel needs of millions of passengers.
Since its launch in December 2023, 30 Amrit Bharat Express trains have been operational nationwide, with nine new services recently added to expand coverage. The network now links the Northeast, eastern, central, western, and southern India, connecting border areas, major cities, and key pilgrimage centres.
The government highlighted that the Amrit Bharat Express aims to bridge regional gaps and enhance mobility for employment, education, healthcare, and family travel. The service is particularly vital for passengers relying on non-AC long-distance travel, strengthening both economic integration and social connectivity.
A key feature of the Amrit Bharat Express is its simple and affordable fare structure. With fares around Rs 500 per 1,000 kilometres and proportionally lower rates for shorter journeys, the trains operate without dynamic pricing, ensuring transparency and predictability for passengers.
The trains are fully non-AC, comprising 11 General Class coaches, eight Sleeper Class coaches, one Pantry Car, and two Second Class–cum–Luggage–cum–Guard Vans, including disabled-friendly compartments. The coaches are designed to offer a comfortable and modern travel experience within the non-AC segment.
The government noted that improved rail access via the Amrit Bharat Express supports workforce mobility, tourism, and trade while enhancing access to education and healthcare across regions.
By combining affordability, broad geographic reach, and passenger-focused design, the Amrit Bharat Express is set to play a lasting role in connecting people, regions, and opportunities, marking a significant milestone for everyday rail travellers in India.
