Aamir Khan Calls Mahabharata His Dream Project, Says It Could Be the Final Chapter of His Career

Aamir Khan has opened up about his long-cherished ambition to adapt the Mahabharata for the big screen, calling it a deeply emotional and cultural responsibility. The actor said he is taking his time to ensure the epic is handled with authenticity and respect, hinting that the project could mark the culmination of his acting journey.

Aamir Khan has once again expressed his desire to bring the Mahabharata to cinema, describing the epic as more than just a film project and calling it a responsibility that must be approached with extreme care. Speaking to CNN-News18, the actor said that the Mahabharata is deeply ingrained in Indian culture, with generations growing up listening to its stories and teachings.

The 60-year-old actor admitted that the emotional and cultural weight of the epic makes him cautious. He believes that while a poorly made adaptation could disappoint audiences, the story itself will always stand tall. For that reason, Khan said he is in no hurry and wants to ensure that any cinematic version makes Indians feel proud.

Comparing the Mahabharata to global cinematic franchises like The Lord of the Rings and Avatar, Khan said the Indian epic surpasses them in scale, philosophy, and narrative depth. According to him, if adapted with sincerity and precision, Mahabharata has the potential to resonate not only with Indian audiences but also with viewers across the world.

Khan also suggested that Mahabharata could be the final milestone of his career. In an earlier interaction, he hinted that completing the project might leave him feeling creatively fulfilled, with nothing more left to achieve. The actor is currently busy promoting his production Happy Patel and is also reportedly involved in a Dadasaheb Phalke biopic with Rajkumar Hirani.
