In a shocking incident, a youth was shot and injured during a village meeting at Dhepasahi village under Mohana police station limits in Odisha’s Gajapati district on Monday, reportedly over a long-standing love-related dispute.
According to reports, tensions had been brewing for some time over a love relationship. In an attempt to resolve the issue amicably and prevent further escalation, villagers convened a meeting. However, the situation turned violent when the accused, identified as Santosh Pradhan, allegedly opened fire with a pistol, creating panic at the spot.
The bullet reportedly struck Anil Kumar Karad, the brother of the woman involved in the relationship, injuring him in the right leg. As chaos ensued, Anil collapsed due to the injury and was immediately rushed by his family members to Chandragiri Hospital. Given the seriousness of his condition, he was later referred to MKCG Medical College and Hospital in Berhampur for advanced treatment.
On receiving information, Mohana police rushed to the scene and launched an investigation. The accused, Santosh Pradhan, has been detained at the police station, and the pistol allegedly used in the firing has been seized.
Police officials said a detailed investigation is underway to ascertain the exact sequence of events and the motive behind the firing. Further action will be taken based on the findings of the probe.
