Sundargarh, Odisha: Panic spread through Barilepta village early Wednesday morning after a wild elephant attack left a 42-year-old man dead. The deceased, Lobo Singh, reportedly came in contact with a tusker that had strayed from its herd near the Bisra forest division, causing damage to crops and terrifying villagers.
Forest department teams rushed to the scene and tried to guide the elephant back into the forest. Despite their efforts, Lobo Singh was trampled and later declared dead at a nearby hospital. Rescue operations continue, though large crowds attempting to capture videos are hampering the efforts.
Authorities have urged residents to avoid the area to prevent further casualties and allow forest personnel to safely conduct operations. The incident underscores the human-elephant conflict in Sundargarh’s forest-adjacent villages, highlighting the urgent need for preventive measures and enhanced wildlife monitoring.
