A wild elephant killed two people, including a woman, in Ganjam district while they were working in their agricultural field. Forest officials launched an operation to drive the tusker away as fear spread among villagers.

Panic spread across Jalameripalli village in Ganjam district of Odisha after a wild elephant trampled two villagers to death on Sunday. The victims were attacked while plucking vegetables in their agricultural field when the tusker suddenly emerged and charged at them.

The woman died on the spot due to severe injuries, while the other victim was rushed to a hospital in Digapahandi for treatment. Despite medical efforts, he later succumbed to his injuries.

Following the incident, fear and tension gripped the village, with locals expressing concern over the increasing movement of elephants near human settlements. Residents said such incidents have become frequent, posing risks to both lives and crops.

Officials from the Odisha Forest Department reached the spot and launched an operation to drive the elephant away. Authorities are closely monitoring the situation and have advised villagers to remain alert and avoid going alone to forest-fringe areas.
