Trump, Family, and Trump Organization Sue IRS and Treasury Over Tax Record Leak

US President Donald Trump, his two eldest sons, and the Trump Organization have filed a $10 billion lawsuit against the IRS and Treasury Department, alleging the unlawful disclosure of their confidential tax records by a former IRS contractor. The suit also targets media reporting that followed the leaks.

US President Donald Trump, his sons Donald Trump Jr. and Eric Trump, and the Trump Organization have filed a federal lawsuit in Miami against the IRS and the Treasury Department, seeking at least $10 billion in damages for alleged failures to protect their confidential tax information.

The lawsuit claims that former IRS contractor Charles “Chaz” Littlejohn unlawfully accessed and disclosed the family’s tax records during 2019 and 2020 due to systemic failures within federal agencies. Littlejohn, now serving a five-year prison sentence, admitted to leaking Trump’s tax records to The New York Times and ProPublica, as well as records of other high-profile individuals.

Trump’s legal team argues that the IRS breached its duty to safeguard sensitive taxpayer data, allowing politically motivated leaks to left-leaning news outlets, which were then disseminated to the public. The lawsuit also challenges media reporting, claiming ProPublica falsely portrayed the leaked records as evidence of fraud.

The case follows Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent’s decision to cancel all contracts with consulting firm Booz Allen Hamilton, which had employed Littlejohn as a contractor. This legal action adds to Trump’s ongoing disputes over his tax records and raises broader concerns about federal data security and accountability for unauthorized disclosures of taxpayer information.
