Two people were killed in a fatal road accident involving a passenger bus and a motorcycle at Rathagada Chowk under Athagarh police limits on Wednesday. The incident occurred when a bus travelling from Athagarh towards Cuttack collided head-on with a motorcycle, leading to the instantaneous death of both riders.
The deceased have been identified as Ram Nayak of Athagarh and Tapas Nayak of Cuttack. Following the collision, locals rushed to the spot and alerted the police. The impact of the crash was severe, leaving both victims with fatal injuries.
According to preliminary reports, the accident occurred on a busy stretch of road known for frequent traffic movement. The bus involved in the incident was seized by the police, while the driver reportedly fled the scene immediately after the collision.
Tension prevailed briefly in the area as residents gathered at the accident site. Police personnel soon reached the spot, recovered the bodies, and sent them for post-mortem examination. A case has been registered in connection with the incident, and a search operation has been launched to trace the absconding driver.
Authorities have also begun reviewing CCTV footage from nearby locations to ascertain the exact cause of the accident, including possible overspeeding or negligence. Normal traffic movement was restored after police intervention.
