Two Maoists Killed in Kandhamal Encounter as Odisha Intensifies Anti-Naxal Operations

Two Maoists were killed in an encounter with security forces in Kandhamal district, boosting efforts to eliminate insurgency in the region.Security agencies have intensified combing operations amid suspicion that senior leaders of CPI (Maoist) are hiding in the forest.

In a major development, Odisha moved a step closer to its Maoist-free goal after two Maoists were killed during an exchange of fire with security forces in the Nandabadi forest of Kandhamal district. The operation was launched based on intelligence inputs about the presence of Maoist cadres hiding in the Karada forest area.

The gunfight reportedly lasted for over one and a half hours, resulting in the deaths of two Maoists identified as Yogesh and Ratna, both natives of Chhattisgarh. Yogesh was an Area Committee Member of the Maoist KKBN division and was considered a close associate of senior Maoist leader Shukru, while Ratna was an active party member.

Following the encounter, security forces, including the Special Operations Group, launched intensive combing operations amid reports that senior Maoist leaders may still be hiding in the forest. Authorities also suspect that Maoists injured in the exchange managed to escape deeper into the forest.

Security agencies are closely monitoring cross-border Maoist movements, as insurgents facing pressure in Chhattisgarh may attempt to take shelter in Odisha. The operation is ongoing as forces continue their efforts to eliminate Maoist presence in the region.
