A shocking triple murder case in Odisha’s Deogarh district took a dramatic turn after the accused was found hiding on top of a village water tank before being arrested by police with the help of fire services personnel.
According to police, the accused, identified as Ramesh Garia, allegedly killed three members of his family—his wife, daughter-in-law, and granddaughter—in Gariapali village under Kundheigola police station limits.
Following the incident, the accused had reportedly fled from the spot, prompting an extensive search operation by the police across nearby areas.
The breakthrough came when villagers noticed a man sitting on top of the village water tank and identified him as the accused. Residents quickly surrounded the area to prevent him from escaping and immediately alerted the police.
Acting on the information, a team from Kundheigola police station rushed to the location and began efforts to apprehend him. However, authorities feared that the accused might attempt to jump from the height of the water tank.
To avoid any risk and ensure a safe operation, the fire services department was called to assist the police.
After a prolonged effort, the fire services team successfully brought the accused down from the top of the water tank. He was then taken into police custody without any weapons being recovered from his possession.
Police officials also indicated that the accused appeared to be in a fragile mental condition, which was one of the reasons the operation was handled cautiously with the involvement of the fire department.
Soon after his arrest, the accused was taken to a hospital where doctors reportedly discovered that he had consumed poison. According to sources, he was not cooperating with medical staff during the administration of the antidote.
