All Government Work in Odisha to Be Conducted in Odia Language: State Government Issues Official Directive

The Odisha state government has instructed all departments and district collectors to conduct all official work in the Odia language. From block level to state level, all government communication, notices, and notifications must be issued in Odia. Officials failing to comply may face warnings and show-cause notices.

Bhubaneswar, February 14:The Odisha state government has announced that all official work across the state will be carried out exclusively in the Odia language. A formal directive has been issued to all government departments and district collectors to ensure strict implementation of this order.

As per the directive, all government work from the block level up to the state level must be conducted in Odia. This includes official notices, notifications, circulars, letters, and all forms of official correspondence issued by government offices.

The state government has instructed that these guidelines be followed in accordance with the detailed instructions issued by the General Administration and Public Grievance Department. The initiative has been taken by the Odia Language, Literature, and Culture Department to promote the use of Odia in government administration.

Officials who fail to comply with the directive will first be issued warnings. If violations continue, show-cause notices may be served seeking explanations for non-compliance.

The order applies to all government departments, departmental head offices, district collectors’ offices, subordinate offices, and all institutions managed by the state government. This includes corporations, municipal bodies, urban local bodies, and autonomous institutions functioning under the state government.

The state government has emphasized that strict adherence to this directive is mandatory to ensure effective implementation and to uphold Odia as the primary language of governance in Odisha.
