The release of The Kerala Story 2: Goes Beyond, directed by Kamakhya Narayan Singh and produced by Vipul Amrutlal Shah, has reignited debate in India over its controversial content. The film claims to depict young Hindu women being lured into interfaith marriages and forced to convert to Islam, which has drawn political and social scrutiny.
Filmmaker Anurag Kashyap slammed the movie at Kochi airport, calling it propaganda made for profit rather than storytelling, and highlighted a contentious scene involving forced consumption of beef. Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan also criticised the film as “false propaganda” and “poisonous.”
A petition challenging the film’s release has been filed in the Kerala High Court, which issued notices to the Information and Broadcasting Ministry, the CBFC, and the film’s producers. The hearing is scheduled for February 24. Despite the controversy, the film has received a U/A certificate and is slated for release on February 27, starring Ulka Gupta, Aditi Bhatia, and Aishwarya Ojha.
