Elaborate Security Arrangements in Place for Khandagiri Mela in Bhubaneswar

The Commissionerate Police have deployed 13 platoons of force to ensure law and order during the Khandagiri Mela in Bhubaneswar. The 12-day religious and cultural fair, which began on Magha Saptami, has drawn a massive gathering of saints, devotees, and theatre troupes.

In view of the large turnout and religious significance of the Khandagiri Mela, the Commissionerate Police have put in place elaborate security arrangements to ensure the smooth conduct of the annual event. Official sources said on Monday that 13 platoons of police force have been deployed to maintain law and order throughout the Mela period.

The Khandagiri Mela has commenced in Bhubaneswar on the occasion of Magha Saptami and entered its second day on Monday. The 12-day event is witnessing a huge gathering of saints, seers, and devotees from across Odisha and outside the state. The foothills of Khandagiri are filled with prayers, rituals, and chants as sadhus perform worship and recite sacred mantras across the Mela premises.

Alongside the spiritual activities, the fair has also turned into a major cultural attraction with several Jatra (opera) and folk theatre troupes staging performances, adding vibrancy to the festive atmosphere.

Earlier, to ensure discipline and public safety during the Khandagiri Jatra, the Commissionerate Police issued 14 strict guidelines to jatra organising committees. These include a complete ban on nude dance, obscene acts, or provocative performances. Organisers have also been directed to provide at least six emergency entry and exit routes near the jatra pandals to manage crowd movement and handle emergencies.

ACP Zone-3 Tapas Pradhan said that all jatra committees have agreed to follow the guidelines to ensure peaceful and orderly conduct of the event.
