Nalco Expands Operations in Odisha, Focuses on Bauxite Mining and Renewable Energy Transition

State-run National Aluminium Company Ltd (Nalco) is accelerating expansion and sustainability initiatives in Odisha by developing new bauxite and coal mines, expanding its smelter capacity, and planning large-scale renewable energy installations to support long-term growth and greener aluminium production.

National Aluminium Company Ltd (Nalco) is strengthening its presence in Odisha through a series of expansion and sustainability measures. The company is developing the Pottangi bauxite mines in Koraput district, with mining operations expected to begin soon, ensuring steady raw material supply. Nalco has also started coal mining from the Utkal D and E blocks to enhance fuel security and reduce input costs. Alongside these steps, the company is undertaking a brownfield expansion of its smelter, adding 0.5 million tonnes per annum capacity. As part of its clean energy transition, Nalco plans to install 200–300 MW of renewable energy capacity with battery storage to reduce dependence on coal-based power and lower its carbon footprint.
