Shopkeeper Injured In Sword Attack Near Samantarapur Square In Bhubaneswar

A 52-year-old shopkeeper was injured after three men allegedly attacked him with a sword near Samantarapur Square in Bhubaneswar. The attack reportedly followed a quarrel earlier in the evening, and police have launched an investigation.

A shopkeeper was seriously injured after being attacked with a sword near Samantarapur Square in Bhubaneswar on Friday night, triggering panic in the locality.

The victim has been identified as Dilip Kumar Behera, a 52-year-old shop owner. According to reports, the incident occurred around 9 pm and was allegedly linked to a quarrel that had taken place earlier in the evening.

At around 7 pm, a youth reportedly came to Behera’s shop to buy sweets. As the shopkeeper was busy preparing items, he asked the customer to wait. This led to a heated argument between the two, after which the youth left the spot.

About two hours later, three men arrived on a motorcycle near the shop. They allegedly abused Behera and attacked him with a sword before fleeing the scene. During the assault, Behera sustained a deep injury to his left hand.

The sudden attack created panic among people in the area, prompting nearby shopkeepers to quickly shut their establishments fearing further violence. Tension prevailed in the locality until police arrived and brought the situation under control.

Local residents rushed the injured shopkeeper to Capital Hospital for treatment. Doctors later referred him to a private hospital where he is currently undergoing medical care.

Police have launched an investigation and started efforts to identify and trace the accused involved in the attack. Authorities said strict action will be taken once the culprits are identified and apprehended.
