The Odisha government on Wednesday projected the state as an emerging powerhouse in artificial intelligence (AI), announcing plans for a sovereign AI hub that could reshape its economic and technological landscape over the next five years.
According to reports, the proposed AI facility will be backed by an investment of Rs 20,000 crore from Sarvam AI. The initiative is expected to generate approximately 5,000 highly skilled employment opportunities across various technology domains.
Speaking at the India AI Impact Summit in New Delhi, Additional Chief Secretary (Electronics & IT) Vishal Kumar Dev outlined Odisha’s vision during a session titled ‘Democratisation of AI — Bharat Story’.
Dev highlighted that the sovereign AI hub would drive AI adoption across multiple sectors, including:
Governance and public service delivery
Industry and manufacturing
Healthcare
Education
Agriculture
The Odisha government believes the project will not only accelerate technological advancement but also deliver a multiplier effect on the regional economy. The creation of 5,000 skilled jobs is expected to boost ancillary sectors, enhance talent retention, and position Odisha as a competitive player in India’s broader AI ecosystem.
Strategic investments in digital infrastructure, research capabilities, and workforce development are central to the state’s roadmap for emerging as a global AI destination.
