Rolls-Royce CEO Meets PM Modi, Plans Major Expansion in India

Rolls-Royce CEO Tufan Erginbilgic met Prime Minister Narendra Modi to discuss significantly expanding the company’s operations in India. The expansion includes scaling up its Global Capability Centre and supporting India’s Atmanirbhar Bharat and Viksit Bharat vision.

Rolls-Royce is set to significantly expand its footprint in India following a high-level meeting between CEO Tufan Erginbilgic and Prime Minister Narendra Modi in New Delhi. The discussions focused on aligning the British engineering major’s long-term growth plans with India’s ambitious Viksit Bharat vision and its drive toward self-reliance under the Atmanirbhar Bharat initiative.

Prime Minister Modi welcomed Rolls-Royce’s growing interest in India, highlighting the country’s dynamic youth, innovation ecosystem, and expanding industrial base as key strengths. In a post on X, the Prime Minister expressed appreciation for the company’s enthusiasm to scale up its activities and collaborate with India’s talented workforce.

During the meeting, Rolls-Royce outlined its plans to expand its Global Capability Centre (GCC) in India, with the goal of making it the largest such facility within the company worldwide. The expansion will focus on high-value engineering capabilities, advanced technologies, and complex manufacturing. This move is expected to further position India as a strategic hub for Rolls-Royce’s global operations.

The talks also covered strengthening collaboration in critical sectors such as defence, aerospace, and power systems. Rolls-Royce emphasized how its advanced technologies could support India’s self-reliance goals, particularly in defence manufacturing and other strategic industries. Tufan Erginbilgic, along with Sashi Mukundan, India Executive Vice President, reiterated the company’s commitment to contributing to India’s industrial growth by investing in skills development, enhancing local partnerships, and increasing sourcing from Indian suppliers.

The meeting builds on Erginbilgic’s earlier statements describing India as a “home market” for Rolls-Royce. In October 2025, he highlighted the company’s deep ambitions to strengthen its presence in the country, recognizing India’s rising global importance in engineering, manufacturing, and innovation.

Recently, Rolls-Royce inaugurated its expanded Global Capability and Innovation Centre in Bengaluru, which is on track to become the company’s largest capability hub worldwide. The centre supports key business segments including civil aerospace, defence, and power systems, underscoring India’s central role in Rolls-Royce’s future growth strategy.

As India accelerates its push toward becoming a developed economy, global engineering giants like Rolls-Royce are increasingly viewing the country as a strategic partner for long-term investment, innovation, and advanced manufacturing.
