Puri to Get Rs 1,000 Crore Cruise Terminal; 1,500-Acre Tourism City Planned in Sipasarubali

Deputy CM Pravati Parida announced a Rs 1,000 crore cruise terminal project in Puri to boost coastal tourism. A 1,500-acre planned city in Sipasarubali will also be developed to drive tourism-led urban growth and employment.

Odisha’s Deputy Chief Minister and Tourism Minister, Pravati Parida, has announced that a cruise terminal worth around Rs 1,000 crore will be constructed in Puri to strengthen the state’s coastal tourism infrastructure. The announcement was made during the 40th foundation day celebration of the Hotel and Restaurant Association of Odisha in Puri.

The proposed cruise terminal is expected to attract both domestic and international cruise liners, significantly enhancing Odisha’s maritime tourism potential. With Puri already a major pilgrimage hub due to the revered Jagannath Temple, the new facility is likely to position the city as a prominent tourism and cruise destination along India’s eastern coastline.

In addition, the government plans to develop a modern city over 1,500 acres in the Sipasarubali area of Puri district. The project is expected to include hotels, recreational zones, commercial establishments, and modern urban infrastructure aimed at promoting long-term tourism-driven economic growth.

Officials stated that the cruise terminal and township projects will generate significant direct and indirect employment opportunities, while boosting hospitality, transport, and allied sectors. The initiative aligns with the infrastructure expansion push under the leadership of Chief Minister Mohan Majhi, focusing on port-led development, improved connectivity, and large-scale urban transformation across the state.
