One Killed, Two Critical in Group Clash in Sonepur; Police Launch Investigation.

A violent group clash in Binika town of Odisha’s Sonepur district claimed one life and left two others critically injured late Tuesday night, prompting a police investigation.

One person was killed and two others sustained critical injuries following a violent clash between two groups in Binika town of Sonepur district late Tuesday night, police officials confirmed.

The incident occurred near a pond in Ward No. 8, where a minor dispute reportedly escalated into a deadly confrontation. The deceased has been identified as Shambhu Meher of Nika Nuapada, who allegedly suffered fatal injuries during the clash.

Two other individuals were seriously injured in the incident and were initially rushed to the Binika Community Health Centre for treatment. As their condition worsened, doctors referred them to Veer Surendra Sai Institute of Medical Sciences and Research (VIMSAR), Burla, for advanced medical care. Hospital sources stated that both injured persons are currently in critical condition.

According to preliminary information, the clash began following a minor altercation between members of two groups near the pond area. The argument reportedly escalated rapidly, leading to a knife attack that resulted in one death and multiple injuries.

The incident triggered tension in the locality, with residents gathering at the spot soon after the violence. Police personnel reached the area promptly after receiving information and brought the situation under control.

As part of the investigation, police have detained one person for questioning in connection with the case. Officials said efforts are underway to determine the exact cause of the clash and identify other individuals involved, some of whom are reportedly absconding.
