In a significant development, the Confiscation Court (Authorised Officer, Special Court, Vigilance),Bhubaneswaron Tuesday ordered the confiscation of disproportionate assets worth Rs 2,50,44,029 belonging to Simadri Nayak who is a retired Former Executive Engineer of R.W. Division in Umarkote town of Nabarangpur district.
The confiscated properties include both immovable and movable assets. Among the immovable assets are one multi-storeyed building at Rayagada, two buildings at Nabarangpur, and three plots- one located in Rayagada town and two in Nabarangpur town. The movable assets comprise bank deposits and gold ornaments.
Nayak and his spouse were charge-sheeted by Odisha Vigilance under Sections 13(2) read with 13(1)(e) of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988, along with Section 109 of the IPC, for possession of assets disproportionate to their known sources of income.
Following trial, both were convicted by the Special Judge, Special Court, Bhubaneswar, on December 11, 2023, for possessing disproportionate assets.
With the latest confiscation order, the legal proceedings in the disproportionate assets case have reached a decisive stage, reinforcing the ongoing crackdown on corruption.
