A reported robbery case in Odisha’s Rayagada district took a dramatic turn after police uncovered that the incident was allegedly staged by the complainant himself. The accused, identified as Ranjit Kumar Dalai, had initially reported that unidentified miscreants snatched a bag containing Rs 2 lakh while he was travelling to deposit the money in a bank along Kapilas Road.
Following the complaint, police launched an investigation into the alleged snatching incident. However, investigators soon grew suspicious of Dalai’s statements and movements during the probe. He was detained for questioning to verify the details of the incident.
During interrogation, Dalai allegedly confessed that he had spent the money himself and fabricated the robbery story to mislead both the authorities and the business establishment where he worked. Police have recovered Rs 1.20 lakh from the accused so far, and efforts are underway to recover the remaining amount. Authorities said the investigation is continuing to examine all aspects of the case.
