The Odisha government has commenced a comprehensive three-month cervical cancer vaccination programme from February 28, aiming to administer the first dose to 3.36 lakh adolescent girls aged 14–15 across the state. Announcing the initiative, Health Minister Mukesh Mahaling highlighted that the campaign will operate in coordination with the School & Mass Education Department and the Women & Child Development Department, ensuring that even school dropout girls are included in the vaccination effort.
The vaccination drive is being implemented in phases, with detailed beneficiary tracking and a Standard Operating Procedure in place to ensure smooth execution. Amid ongoing heatwave conditions, the government has prepared special treatment facilities at Primary Health Centres, Community Health Centres, and medical colleges, stocked with ORS and equipped to manage heat-related illnesses. Awareness programmes have also been rolled out to educate communities about preventive healthcare and ensure the safety and well-being of all adolescent girls during the vaccination drive.
