Odisha is all set to commemorate Netaji Jayanti as Parakram Diwas on Friday, with elaborate arrangements reflecting the state’s commitment to honouring the legacy of Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose. The main celebrations will take place at Janakinath Bhawan, Netaji’s birthplace, and the adjoining museum complex at Odia Bazaar in Cuttack, both of which have been specially decorated for the occasion.
Preparations across the heritage complex, including galleries and landscaped areas, are in their final stages. Cuttack Collector Duttatreya Bhaosaheb Shinde said that the Vice-President of India has confirmed his participation in the event. During the celebrations, he will inaugurate a new philately gallery, an exhibition organised by the Archaeological Survey of India at the Interpretation Centre, and the newly constructed Sanskruti Bhawan under the Ministry of Culture.
As part of the Parakram Diwas programme, a Postal Gallery and a district-level cultural building named after Netaji will also be inaugurated. The event will be attended by several dignitaries, including Vice-President C. P. Radhakrishnan, Governor Dr Hari Babu Kambhampati, and Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi, underlining the national significance of the occasion.
Renovation and restoration works at the memorial are nearing completion. Sculptor Laxmidhar Rana said contributing to the preservation of Netaji’s legacy has been a deeply fulfilling experience. Visitors will be able to explore exhibits documenting Netaji’s life, rare photographs, details of the Indian National Army, and preserved personal belongings.
The State Lalit Kala Academy will organise a painting camp as part of the celebrations. Official programmes will be held from 7.30 a.m. to 1.00 p.m., during which entry will be restricted to invited guests. The premises will be opened to the general public after the conclusion of official events.
