Odisha Govt Steps Up Heatwave Preparedness, Focus on Preventing Sunstroke, Snakebite and Drowning Deaths

The Odisha government is preparing action plans to prevent deaths caused by heatwave, snakebite, and drowning ahead of summer. A high-level meeting led by Suresh Pujari will identify vulnerable areas and strengthen safety measures across the state.

With summer approaching, the Odisha government has begun proactive measures to reduce fatalities caused by heatwave, snakebite, drowning, and lightning strikes. Revenue and Disaster Management Minister Suresh Pujari announced that a joint preparatory meeting involving multiple departments will be held next week to review the state’s preparedness.

Officials from the Revenue, Urban Development, and Panchayati Raj departments will participate in the meeting. Authorities have been instructed to identify heatwave-prone areas and submit detailed reports, especially regions that record high temperatures and frequent heat-related illnesses.

The government will also focus on preventing drowning and snakebite incidents, which increase during summer and monsoon seasons. Sensitive water bodies and high-risk locations, including selfie points where drowning incidents have occurred, will be mapped. Preventive steps such as warning signboards, awareness campaigns, and improved coordination will be implemented.

The initiative reflects the state government’s proactive approach to minimize casualties and ensure public safety during extreme weather conditions.
