The Odisha government has launched a process for the compulsory retirement of lecturers in the Higher Education Department whose performance and conduct are deemed unsatisfactory. Clear guidelines have been issued to colleges and universities to review faculty performance and behaviour across the state’s Higher Educational Institutions, with the aim of improving teaching standards and academic outcomes.
College authorities have been directed to submit detailed reports by January 31, assessing lecturers who have consistently underperformed. A prescribed format has been provided for listing faculty members falling below expected standards. Following this review, an assessment will determine whether individuals have improved or may be considered for premature retirement if they continue to underperform or impede effective teaching and learning.
The Higher Education Department has communicated the instructions to all university registrars and college principals, emphasizing compliance and timely submission of reports. This initiative forms part of the state government’s broader effort to strengthen accountability and elevate academic standards in Higher Educational Institutions through a structured, performance-based approach.
