In a major boost to public health infrastructure, the Odisha government on Tuesday inaugurated 250 new ambulances to strengthen emergency medical services across the state. Chief Minister Mohan Majhi flagged off the fleet at a special programme held at the Kalinga Stadium in Bhubaneswar.
The launch marks the second phase of the state government’s plan to expand its emergency ambulance network with the aim of improving response time and ensuring timely medical care, especially in critical and life-threatening situations.
Earlier, the state government had announced the addition of a total of 428 new ambulances to its emergency medical transportation system. As part of the first phase, 150 ambulances were flagged off on December 23, 2025. With the inauguration of 250 additional vehicles, the government has made significant progress in strengthening emergency healthcare delivery.
Officials said the new ambulances would be deployed across various districts to enhance coverage, particularly in remote and underserved areas, and to ensure faster transportation of patients to nearby healthcare facilities.
Addressing the programme, Chief Minister Mohan Majhi said the initiative was fully funded by the state government, reflecting its commitment to improving public health services. “Our government has launched 428 new ambulances for emergency medical transportation for the people of the state. Similar to this, 150 ambulances were launched on December 23, 2025, and today 250 new ambulances have been added,” he said.
He added that the state government had invested Rs 111 crore from its own funds for the initiative. Emphasising the focus on efficiency and timely response, the Chief Minister said the expanded fleet would help ensure that patients receive immediate medical attention and reach hospitals without delay.
The enhanced ambulance network is expected to significantly improve the reach, reliability and effectiveness of emergency medical services across Odisha.
