G. Udayagiri in Kandhamal district recorded a minimum temperature of 3.7 degrees Celsius on Wednesday, making it among the coldest places in Odisha. Officials noted that the area has witnessed a steady decline in temperature over the past two weeks, with the chill becoming more severe in recent days after brief fluctuations earlier.
Fog Likely in 13 Districts
The Meteorological Department has forecast light to moderate fog in 13 districts over the next three days. With no significant change in weather patterns expected until January 17, cold nights and chilly early mornings are likely to persist across the state.
Koida Records Sharp Temperature Dip
Koida has also been reeling under severe cold conditions, with nighttime temperatures dropping below 8 degrees Celsius. The sudden fall in mercury has affected daily life, making routine activities difficult, especially during early mornings and evenings.
Daily Life Affected by Prolonged Chill
As temperatures plunge after sunset, roads and public places in several areas are reportedly becoming deserted earlier than usual. Residents are often seen gathering around open fires to keep warm, particularly in interior and hilly regions where the cold remains more intense.
