Modified Description:A serious road accident occurred on Monday at Jarau Ghat under Mohana police limits in Odisha’s Gajapati district, when an auto-rickshaw lost control, hit an electric pole, and plunged nearly 10 feet down a slope. The mishap left 17 people injured, including 12 schoolchildren and a woman, with five reported in critical condition.
Parents from four villages had hired four auto-rickshaws to take their children to a residential ashram school in Gadagada. While navigating the ghat road, one of the vehicles collided with an electric pole and fell. All injured were initially taken to the Badagada health centre, with the critically injured later shifted to MKCG Medical College and Hospital in Berhampur for treatment.
Mohana police arrived at the scene and have launched a full investigation into the accident. No official comments have been issued so far.
Earlier, in September last year, a similar incident was narrowly averted in Salepur, Cuttack district, when an auto carrying 10 students overturned into Canal No. 5. All students were safely rescued in that incident.
