Popular jatra dance performer Nisha Maharana may face arrest following a police complaint over an alleged obscene dance in Odisha’s Bolangir district. The case, registered at Bolangir Sadar Police Station, concerns a cultural programme held in Chandanbhati village on the night of January 12, where the performance was reportedly deemed indecent by local residents. Two organisers associated with the event have already been detained for questioning.
Officials said the investigation is ongoing to determine the exact nature of the performance and the responsibility of both the artist and the organisers. This is not the first controversy involving Nisha Maharana; a recent incident in Gariaband district, Chhattisgarh, led to the arrest of organising committee members and administrative action, including the transfer of a Sub-Divisional Magistrate and suspension of police personnel.
Authorities have warned that strict action will be taken against anyone found violating decency laws at public events, and further developments in the Bolangir case are awaited.
