Airline operations across India experienced brief disruptions on Thursday morning following an interim outage of Navitaire, a widely used airline reservation and departure control system owned by Amadeus. The technical issue impacted several carriers in India as well as parts of the Asia-Pacific and Europe regions.
In India, all airlines using the Navitaire system—except Air India—were affected during the early morning peak hours. Between 6:45 am and 7:28 am, and again intermittently from 8:10 am to 8:25 am, carriers including IndiGo, Air India Express, Akasa Air, and SpiceJet reported temporary slowdowns in passenger processing.
The disruption led to delays in check-in and boarding procedures at multiple airports, particularly at Indira Gandhi International Airport (IGIA) in Delhi. Airport officials confirmed that passenger processing systems at check-in counters and boarding gates were impacted, resulting in longer queues during the busy morning departure window.
The congestion at IGIA was compounded by heightened security arrangements and increased activity related to the ongoing Artificial Intelligence Summit 2026 in the national capital. Multiple VIP movements added operational pressure at terminals. A Notice to Air Missions (NOTAM) was also in place, imposing temporary flight restrictions in and around Delhi from 7:30 am to 3 pm, covering IGIA and airports within a 300-kilometre radius.
Under the NOTAM guidelines, scheduled commercial services and summit-related VIP flights cleared in advance were permitted, along with designated defence and emergency operations. Other flights required prior security clearance from the Ministry of Home Affairs. Scheduled flights were allowed to overfly the restricted zone at or above 29,000 feet, subject to specific climb and descent conditions. Safdarjung Airport remained closed except for limited security helicopter operations.
During the Navitaire outage, airlines switched to manual and backup procedures to minimise delays. Airport authorities stated that there were no immediate flight cancellations linked to the disruption, although some flights reported minor departure delays. The issue was resolved within hours, and normal operations gradually resumed across affected airports.
