Bhubaneswar, Feb 15: The spiritual atmosphere in Ekamra Kshetra has intensified as preparations peak for the holy festival of Maha Shivratri at the revered Lingaraj Temple. Devotees from across Odisha and beyond have started gathering in large numbers to offer prayers to Lord Lingaraj, the presiding deity of the temple.
Special darshan arrangements have been made from early morning hours, with Sahani Mela darshan scheduled between 3:30 AM and 11:00 AM. Devotees will also get additional opportunities for darshan after the Mahadeep rituals in the afternoon and late night. Traditional rituals such as the four-phase puja, Harihara meeting, and Badasinghar Besha will continue until early Monday morning.
Several dignitaries, including Governor Hari Babu Kambhampati and Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi, along with ministers and public representatives, are expected to attend the Mahadeep ceremony.
To ensure crowd control and safety, authorities have reduced VIP passes this year and introduced QR-code-based entry systems to prevent misuse. Entry through unauthorized routes has been strictly restricted, and the entire temple premises are under CCTV surveillance.
A massive security deployment has been made, including 41 platoons of police force, senior officers, inspectors, and women constables. Cultural programmes will also be held, featuring renowned singers Anuradha Paudwal and Nitin Mukesh, along with local artists, during a national devotional evening organized by Ekamra cultural groups.
Authorities have taken additional precautions to avoid any untoward incidents during the Mahadeep ritual. Restricted zones and barricades have been set up, and guidelines have been issued to temple servitors regarding safe conduct during the ceremonies.
Facilities like drinking water, medical services, fire safety support, sanitation arrangements, and additional public transport have been arranged for devotees. Officials have urged pilgrims to follow safety guidelines and cooperate for a smooth and peaceful celebration.
