Back-to-back robbery incidents in different parts of Bhubaneswar on the same day have triggered concern among residents over safety and security in the state capital.
In one incident, a jewellery shop was allegedly looted under the Tamando police limits in the Kalinga Vihar area. According to police sources, a masked miscreant entered the store and sprayed a substance, suspected to be a chemical spray, before decamping with gold ornaments. The accused managed to flee the spot with the valuables.
In a separate incident in the Chandrasekharpur area, unidentified bike-borne snatchers allegedly targeted the mother of a police officer. The miscreants reportedly snatched a gold chain from her neck during the morning hours and escaped before locals could intervene.
Police have registered cases in both incidents and launched investigations. Tamando police are scrutinising CCTV footage from the jewellery store and surrounding areas to identify the culprits. Investigators are also examining whether the two crimes are connected or the handiwork of separate groups.
The incidents have raised alarm among citizens, who have called for enhanced patrolling and stricter security measures in vulnerable areas of the city.
