Khuntuni police on Sunday carried out a major crackdown on illegal country liquor manufacturing units operating in the Athagarh area. Acting on specific intelligence inputs, police teams conducted raids in forested pockets near villages including Dalua, Khanduali, Saraswatipur, and Magadh under Khuntuni police station limits.
During the operation, police seized several bags of raw materials and hundreds of litres of illegally brewed country liquor stored in plastic drums inside forest areas to evade detection. As per standard procedure, the seized liquor and raw materials were destroyed at the spot.
A case has been registered at Khuntuni police station in connection with the illegal manufacture and storage of country liquor. Police said further investigation is underway to identify and apprehend individuals involved in the racket.
In a separate earlier operation, the Excise Department in Balasore also seized and destroyed large quantities of illegally prepared liquor and raw materials during a raid in the Old Balasore area. The operation was conducted by a special excise team in coordination with local police following inputs about illegal liquor production and trade.
Authorities stated that such enforcement drives will continue across the state to curb the illegal liquor trade and ensure public safety.
