In a major crackdown on illegal cattle trading, Keonjhar police have unearthed massive financial assets linked to an organised cow smuggling network operating across multiple districts in Odisha. The operation has so far resulted in the seizure of Rs 4.40 crore from bank accounts associated with the alleged cow mafia.
Police officials revealed that around 200 bank accounts suspected to be connected to the racket have been identified across five districts — Keonjhar, Jajpur, Bhadrak, Mayurbhanj and Khordha. Of these, 121 accounts have already been examined, leading to the seizure of crores of rupees, while scrutiny of the remaining 79 accounts is still pending. Authorities believe the total financial footprint of the network could be significantly higher.
Investigators also discovered that the accused controlled more than 50 bank lockers, pointing to the extensive and well-organised nature of the illegal operations. These lockers and other assets are currently being audited as part of the ongoing financial probe.
The coordinated raids involved 47 police teams deployed simultaneously across the five districts to dismantle the cattle smuggling network and trace its financial trail. Keonjhar police confirmed that the investigation is continuing and assured strict legal action against all individuals involved as part of efforts to curb illegal cattle trade in Odisha.
