Jindal Steel and Power has secured the Rengalaberha North-East Extension and Nuagan West iron ore block in Odisha through a state auction, with estimated reserves of nearly 38 million tonnes. The mine reportedly contains high-grade iron ore with significant industrial value.

Jindal Steel and Power has secured another iron ore mining block in Odisha with estimated reserves of nearly38 million tonnes, further strengthening the company’s mining portfolio.

According to sources familiar with the development, the steelmaker won theRengalaberha North-East Extension and Nuagan West iron ore blockthrough a state government auction held on Wednesday. Reports indicate that the company offered apremium of 111.15 per cent over the base priceto secure the mining block.

High-Grade Iron Ore Reserves

Sources revealed that the newly acquired mine contains bothhigh-grade and low-grade iron ore deposits. Out of the total estimated reserves, around29 million tonnes consist of high-grade fines along with some iron ore lumps.

The high-grade ore reportedly has aniron (Fe) content of around 60 per cent, making it suitable for direct use in furnaces or for producingsinter and pelletsused in steel manufacturing.

When the lower-grade material is included, theoverall average Fe content of the mine is estimated at about 57.87 per cent, indicating strong commercial value for steel production.

Expansion of Mining Portfolio

The development comes shortly after Jindal Steel and Power secured another major mining asset in the state. Earlier reports stated that the company had won theThakurani A1 iron ore blockwith reserves exceeding50 million tonnes.

The company later confirmed the acquisition of the block located in Keonjhar district in a filing submitted to the stock exchange.

With these acquisitions, the steelmaker continues toexpand its raw material security and strengthen its mining operations in Odisha, a state known for its rich mineral reserves.
