India’s frontline information technology stocks opened higher on Thursday, driven by renewed investor optimism following key announcements at the India AI Impact Summit 2026.
Shares of HCLTech rose around 1.5% in early trade, while Infosys and Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) gained over 1%. Tech Mahindra also advanced roughly 1%, indicating a broad-based recovery across major IT counters.
The rally comes after a challenging few weeks for the sector. Indian IT stocks had faced sustained selling pressure amid concerns that rapid advancements in artificial intelligence could disrupt traditional outsourcing, coding, application maintenance and support services — segments that have historically driven revenues for Indian technology majors.
However, sentiment shifted following developments at the summit. Instead of being displaced by AI-driven automation, Indian IT companies appear to be positioning themselves as key enablers within the global AI ecosystem.
A major highlight was TCS onboarding OpenAI as a customer for its data centre initiative, reinforcing its role in AI infrastructure and enterprise support. Infosys has also strengthened AI-focused partnerships aimed at accelerating enterprise adoption and integration.
These developments suggest that global AI innovators may increasingly rely on Indian IT firms for integration, deployment, cloud migration and managed services. Rather than replacing traditional IT services entirely, AI is creating new layers of demand across infrastructure, consulting and enterprise transformation.
Large investment commitments in AI infrastructure and venture funding further boosted confidence that India will remain a strategic hub in the global AI expansion cycle.
Valuation comfort also played a role in Thursday’s rebound. After the recent correction, many IT stocks were trading closer to long-term average valuations, prompting bargain buying by investors.
While it may be premature to declare a sustained sector reversal, the latest rally signals a notable shift in market perception. Artificial intelligence is gradually being viewed not just as a competitive threat, but as a potential growth catalyst — provided Indian IT firms successfully convert summit-level announcements into tangible revenue growth and expanding deal pipelines.
