The Orissa High Court on Tuesday granted interim protection to singers Arpita Choudhury and Somesh Satapathy in connection with the death case of playback singer Humane Sagar. The Court also issued a notice to Humane Sagar’s mother, Shefali Suna, and directed the Markatnagar police to submit the case diary. The matter is scheduled for the next hearing on January 16.
The interim protection was provided while the High Court considered the anticipatory bail applications filed by Choudhury and Satapathy, ordering that no coercive action be taken against them until the next hearing. The Court requested a detailed case diary from the police to review the progress and findings of the investigation.
Following Humane Sagar’s death, his mother lodged a complaint at Markatnagar police station on December 16, naming Arpita Choudhury and Somesh Satapathy among the accused. Based on the complaint, an FIR was registered against nine individuals.
Somesh Satapathy is reportedly the owner of a recording studio, and Arpita Choudhury is his friend. Both approached the High Court seeking anticipatory bail, fearing arrest or police action during the investigation.
The outcome of the case will depend on the ongoing investigation into the circumstances of Humane Sagar’s death and the alleged involvement of the accused. The High Court is expected to assess whether the evidence submitted by the complainant is sufficient to establish culpability, with the police case diary playing a key role in the next hearing.
