The Hockey India League (HIL) kicks off today at Kalinga Stadium in Bhubaneswar, promising thrilling action for sports fans on a chilly evening. Preparations for the final phase of the men’s league have been completed, with all participating teams now in the city.

Two matches are scheduled on the opening day: Bengal Tigers will face Hyderabad Toofans at 5 pm, followed by a 7 pm clash between the home team Kalinga Lancers and Delhi SG Pipers, expected to attract strong local support. Group-stage matches will continue at Kalinga Stadium until January 22, with knockout rounds from January 23 to 25, culminating in the grand finale on January 26.

Unlike last year, when the league was hosted in Rourkela, this year all matches are being held exclusively in Bhubaneswar, making Kalinga Stadium the central venue of the tournament. Kalinga Lancers currently top the points table with 11 points from four matches, raising expectations for a strong home-leg performance.

The league is anticipated to reignite hockey enthusiasm across Odisha and draw fans back to the sport.
