Hindustan Aeronautics Limited Denies Tejas Crash, Calls It Minor Ground Incident Ahead of IAF Assessment

HAL denied reports of a Tejas fighter jet crash, clarifying it was only a minor technical incident on the ground. The clarification comes as the Indian Air Force prepares for a crucial Tejas Mk1A evaluation in April.

State-run aerospace major Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) has rejected media reports claiming a crash of the Light Combat Aircraft Tejas, stating that the incident was only a minor technical issue on the ground. HAL emphasized that there was no crash and that the aircraft continues to maintain one of the best safety records among modern fighter jets.

The clarification comes at a critical time, as the Indian Air Force prepares to conduct a key operational assessment of the delayed Tejas Mk1A variant in April. HAL said the issue is being analysed in coordination with the Air Force to ensure quick resolution.

The development follows recent concerns after the loss of a Tejas aircraft earlier this month during landing at a key air base, where the pilot ejected safely. This marked the third Tejas loss since induction, including earlier incidents near Jaisalmer and during an international airshow.

The Tejas Mk1A programme, which is already facing delays due to engine supply issues, is crucial for strengthening the Air Force’s fighter strength. HAL has confirmed that several Mk1A jets are ready, but induction into frontline squadrons will depend on successful completion of missile trials, radar integration, and weapons system validation.

The upcoming April evaluation will play a decisive role in determining the aircraft’s induction timeline while ensuring combat readiness and safety standards are fully met.
