As the BJP steps up preparations for the Assam Assembly elections due early next year, BJP National Working President Nitin Nabin on Friday attended the party’s state executive and core committee meetings at Kalakshetra in Guwahati, signalling a renewed organisational push in the state.
On his first visit to Assam after assuming charge, Nitin Nabin was accorded a warm reception at Guwahati airport. He was received by Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, BJP’s Assam election in-charge Baijayant Panda, and several senior party leaders, reflecting the importance of the visit in the run-up to the polls.
Addressing the Assam BJP State Executive Committee meeting, Nabin recalled his association with the state since 2009, when he visited Assam as a young leader of the BJP Yuva Morcha. He emphasised that the development of the country is closely linked to the progress of the Northeast, noting that Assam is now moving forward in step with other developed states.
Launching a sharp attack on the Congress, Nabin alleged that during its rule, people lost land rights and Assam failed to receive the full benefits of central government schemes. He said that under the BJP-led government, welfare schemes are now reaching people directly, ensuring better governance and inclusive development.
Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said Nabin’s visit would strengthen the party’s organisational efforts. The meetings focused on booth-level preparedness, coordination among district units, and expanding the outreach of government schemes.Reiterating the BJP’s long-standing focus on the Northeast, dating back to former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee, Nitin Nabin said Assam’s progress is integral to India’s growth. With organisational groundwork gaining momentum, the BJP appears set to intensify its campaign ahead of the crucial Assembly elections.
