In a setback to former Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, the Gujarat High Court on Tuesday rejected his plea seeking a separate trial from AAP leader Sanjay Singh in a criminal defamation case concerning remarks on Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s educational qualifications.
The case arose from statements by Aam Aadmi Party leaders questioning the authenticity of the Prime Minister’s degree. Kejriwal had challenged a December 15, 2025, order of the City Sessions Court in Ahmedabad, which had dismissed his revision petition to quash a September 23, 2023, magistrate court order.
He had requested a separate trial, arguing that the cases against him and Sanjay Singh were distinct and should not be tried together. However, Justice MR Mengdey dismissed the application, upholding the lower courts’ decisions.
