Gas Cylinder Explosion at Ice Factory in Ganjam Kills Technician, Several Injured

A gas cylinder explosion at an ice factory in Odisha’s Ganjam district claimed the life of a technician and injured several others. The blast occurred at Patana Chhak in Dharakote area, with two persons sustaining severe burn injuries.

A tragic accident occurred in Odisha’s Ganjam district on Monday after a gas cylinder explosion at an ice factory in the Dharakote area left one person dead and several others injured.

The deceased has been identified as Bideshi Pradhan, who was working as the chief technician at the factory. He suffered severe injuries in the explosion and later succumbed while undergoing treatment.

According to reports, the blast took place at an ice factory located at Patana Chhak under the jurisdiction of Dharakote police station. Initial information suggests that at least four individuals were injured in the incident.

Two of the injured sustained severe burn injuries of nearly 50 percent and were shifted to Berhampur for advanced medical treatment. One of them, Bideshi Pradhan, later died during treatment, while the other critically injured person, identified as Ramesh Mohapatra, remains in serious condition and is receiving treatment at Berhampur Medical.

The other two injured individuals reportedly suffered minor injuries and are currently undergoing treatment at Aska Hospital. Their condition was reported to be stable.

Authorities said that family members of the deceased have been informed about the incident. The body will be handed over to the family after completion of the post-mortem examination.

Preliminary reports indicate that the machine at the factory was not cooling properly to produce ice. Workers reportedly switched the machine off and on several times in an attempt to restart it, after which the machine suddenly exploded.

Questions have also been raised regarding the maintenance of the machinery at the factory, with suspicions that poor or delayed maintenance may have contributed to the incident.

Police reached the spot soon after receiving information and have launched an investigation to determine the exact cause of the explosion. Officials said documents related to the factory are yet to be examined, as the factory owner was also injured in the blast and has been admitted to the hospital.
