Former US Congressional representative and prominent MAGA figure Marjorie Taylor Greene has once again targeted the H-1B visa programme, alleging widespread fraud and claiming that H-1B holders are “taking over” parts of Texas. In a recent post on social media platform X, Greene accused an Indian-origin immigration lawyer based in Dallas of facilitating approvals for hundreds of thousands of H-1B visas, describing the situation as a massive scam.
Greene claimed that cities such as Irving, Plano, Las Colinas, Frisco, McKinney and Prosper have been “completely overrun and overtaken by both Muslims and Indians.” She amplified a video alleging that fraudulent tech companies were being registered at residential homes to sponsor large numbers of H-1B workers, calling on Republicans to support her proposed bill, HR 6937, which seeks to terminate the H-1B programme altogether.
However, official data sharply contradicts Greene’s claims. According to US Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS), total H-1B approvals across the entire United States in fiscal year 2024 stood at under 400,000, making it statistically impossible for a single lawyer to approve the figures Greene cited. Reports indicate that similar approval levels continued into 2025, further undermining her allegations.
Critics argue that Greene’s remarks reflect long-standing hostility toward immigration rather than evidence-based concerns. Indians account for about 71 percent of H-1B visa holders, many of whom play critical roles in sectors such as technology, healthcare and education. Experts note that repeated attacks on the programme ignore its economic importance while fuelling racial and religious stereotyping.
Greene, who has built her political profile around hardline immigration positions, has previously accused US companies of using H-1B visas to replace American workers. Her renewed campaign comes amid internal fractures within the MAGA movement and follows her resignation from Congress, marking another escalation in her rhetoric against immigration ahead of the 2026 midterm political climate.
