At least five people died in three separate accidents reported from different parts of Odisha, including Dhenkanal, Puri and Nayagarh districts.
In Dhenkanal district, a truck rammed into a house at Hatibari village under Gandia police station late on Thursday night. The eighteen-wheeler truck first collided with a tractor before crashing into a nearby house, breaking through the wall and entering the structure. Asthir Tarai, who was sleeping inside the house at the time, died in the incident. Police reached the spot after receiving information and have launched an investigation.
In another accident, two motorcycle riders were killed and one person sustained critical injuries after a Hyva truck collided with a motorcycle at the Dandamukundpur bypass on the Bhubaneswar–Puri National Highway. The injured person was shifted to Capital Hospital for treatment. The identities of the deceased have not yet been confirmed.
In a separate incident in the Bhapur area of Nayagarh district, two youths died after their motorcycle crashed into a roadside tree. The deceased were identified as Bir Kishore Dhal and Shankar Biswal from Kalatangi village under Bhapur block. They were travelling from Mardarajpur to Kalatangi when they lost control of the motorcycle and hit the tree.
Local villagers rescued the injured youths and rushed them to Khandapada Community Health Centre, where doctors declared both of them dead. Police later reached the hospital, seized the bodies and took custody of the damaged motorcycle.
