The family of Sarthak Mahapatra, an Odia sailor who reportedly went missing from a vessel near Singapore, returned to Bhubaneswar on Tuesday after failing to trace him despite extensive efforts. The family had travelled to Singapore hoping to gather information and participate in search operations but said the outcome was disappointing.
According to family members, they faced difficulties in obtaining full support and cooperation from the company operating the ship. They alleged that crucial information and assistance were not provided in a timely manner, which hampered their efforts to locate the missing sailor.
Sarthak Mahapatra’s disappearance had drawn attention both in Odisha and among maritime authorities. The family has now appealed to the Government of India and concerned agencies to intensify efforts to trace him and ensure a thorough investigation into the circumstances of his disappearance.
Officials are expected to look into the matter further as the family continues to seek answers about what happened to the sailor.
