T20 World Cup 2026: Harry Brook Warns 300-Run Totals Possible in India

England captain Harry Brook believes teams could post 300-run totals at the T20 World Cup 2026, citing Indian conditions, short boundaries and fast outfields. Other captains echoed concerns about the growing challenge for bowlers in modern T20 cricket.

England captain Harry Brook has predicted that 300-run totals could become a reality at the T20 World Cup 2026, pointing to batting-friendly conditions across several venues in India. Speaking at the captains’ press conference ahead of the tournament, Brook said rapid outfields and relatively short boundaries could combine to produce record-breaking scores.

England are one of only two full-member teams to have crossed the 300-run mark in T20 cricket, having smashed 304 against South Africa earlier in 2025. Zimbabwe remain the only other side to achieve the feat, recording a historic 344 against Gambia in 2024. Brook believes similar numbers are achievable in India if batters play fearlessly and maintain attacking intent throughout an innings.

“The wickets look really good at the minute — rapid outfields and fairly short boundaries,” Brook said, adding that teams must not worry excessively about getting out and should continue to take the bowlers on.

South Africa captain Aiden Markram agreed that the nature of T20 batting has evolved, with players now targeting clusters of deliveries rather than individual overs. He noted that grouping a few good balls together can make a significant difference, though it has made life increasingly difficult for bowlers.

Afghanistan captain Rashid Khan offered a contrasting perspective, stressing the importance of a strong bowling mindset. He said bowlers should never accept that conceding 200 or 300 runs is inevitable and must instead focus on restricting the opposition as much as possible, even in unfavourable conditions.

The T20 World Cup begins on February 7, with the final scheduled for March 8, as teams brace for what could be one of the most high-scoring tournaments in the format’s history.
