Odisha has emerged as a key hub in India’s drug trafficking network, with connections spanning from Goa to several other states, raising serious concerns for law enforcement agencies. High-value narcotics are being smuggled through well-organised interstate routes, highlighting the expanding reach of drug syndicates.
Acting on intelligence inputs, the Enforcement Directorate (ED) recently conducted raids at 26 locations across seven states, including Odisha, seizing nearly Rs 3 crore in cash, significant quantities of narcotics, and crucial documents and digital records. The raids form part of an ongoing money laundering investigation linked to the drug trade, uncovering financial networks, shell companies, and properties allegedly used to launder illicit proceeds.
Investigators are now working to identify and apprehend those involved and to attach illegally acquired assets under relevant laws. Bhubaneswar airport has also been identified as a key transit point for traffickers, with authorities intensifying surveillance and strengthening inter-agency coordination. The crackdown aims to dismantle the trafficking network and prevent Odisha from becoming a safe corridor for narcotics smuggling.
